Cebu City to Maya

Maya
is a little town located at the northern part of Cebu island,
where you will be getting on a pump boat to proceed to malapascua
island. The most common way to get to Maya is by taking a bus.
Take cab to the Northern bus terminal, in the reclamation area.
They have buses that makes trips to Maya every hour. Bus companies
named "D 'ROUGH RIDERS" and "CEBU AUTOBUS"
are what you should look out for. To get directly to Maya you
want to take the bus that reads "MAYA BAGAY". The
direct bus to Maya only makes two trips, one at 4:00 am and
the last trip at 4:00pm. Normally, the bus ride is 3-4 hours.
We suggest that you take the first bus, at 4:00am, since traffic
will be very light and the wind is cool. The fare for this ride
is 65 pesos only. In case of excessive luggage we have porters
to assist you in the bus terminal and upon reaching Maya. |

Once
you get to Maya Pier they have outrigger boats that will take
you Malapascua Island. The regular boat leaves at around 11:00
am. This boat normally does not leave until the boat is full
of passengers. This trip is quite long since they allow passengers
to disembark at neighboring islands. The fare is 50 pesos per
person. Other alternative is to charter a boat which the locals
call "special ride". This will cost you 350-500 pesos
depending on the size of the boat. You may leave anytime you
please. The boat ride is about 30-40 min. If the tide is low
in the pier, you will have to take a "bangka", meaning
a paddle boat that will take you to the outrigger boat that
is anchored further from the dock. For this very short ride
the locals will charge you 5 pesos per person and another 5
pesos for each piece of luggage. We advise you to wear slippers
or flip-flops since your feet will be getting wet from getting
in and out of the boat. |
